I deny any claim of ownership of any firearm I might or might not have purchased ammo for.
However........I wouldn't recommend breaking into my castle.

Guns? What guns? I don't have any guns. All of mine fell out of my canoe when I was duck hunting. ;)

Not that I've met anyone in Utah that made me feel like they were going to rob me, but, I would have a good laugh of someone trying to rob us when we're out your way. Looks like 5 on 1. Good odds. :D

MooseHenden 06-15-2018 01:48 PM

In the, "How stupid are you?", file. Was out with Mrs. Moose looking at land and homes in NH. Realtor opened the garage for us to look at. While they looked around in the loft space, I noticed a Beretta 92 hanging on nail with the trigger cocked. Looked around more an there was a revolver and several rifles around. Not too bright. Garage doors had windows and entry door to garage had windows too. Owner wasn't around while we were looking around either. Not just the theft issue. A safety issue too. What if we had little kids??? Be safe everyone.

user493 06-15-2018 03:41 PM

I often say, human stupidity knows no limit. I just found this online.

The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity were first outlined by Carlo M. Cipolla, Professor Emeritus of Economic History at Berkeley, in an essay called The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity. D'oh!

Zeroth Law

There is no upper bound on the amount of stupidity that can exist within any particular individual.

First Law

We always underestimate the number of stupid people.

Not as obvious as it sounds, because:

1. people we had thought to be rational and intelligent suddenly turn out to be unquestionably stupid;
2. day after day we are hampered in whatever we do by stupid people who invariably turn up in the least appropriate places, and
3. the underestimation is after the first law itself is already accounted for.

Second Law

The probability of a person being stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

Third (and Golden) Law

A stupid person is someone who causes damage to another person, or a group of people, without any advantage accruing to himself (or herself) — or even with some resultant self-damage.

Fourth Law

Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid people. They constantly forget that at any moment, and in any circumstance, associating with stupid people invariably constitutes an expensive mistake.

Fifth Law

A stupid person is the most dangerous person in existence. Prof. Cipolla adds a corollary to the fifth law: a stupid person is thus more dangerous than a bandit.

I like it when the odds are in my favor.
Some day there might be a chance that they're not.
And that's why I carry. ;)

Got a new one yesterday. :D

user493 06-17-2018 05:14 PM

That's a good looking CZ. It's half a pound lighter than a CZ 75 and only 1 round less capacity. I like that combination.

Specta 06-17-2018 08:53 PM

I have no idea what my next gun will be.

Pretty sure it will be another S&W.

https://s33.postimg.cc/li710ny9r/IMG_2934.jpg

I am seriously considering this post-war (1946-1949) .38-44 Heavy Duty, Hamilton Bowen 45HD conversion fitted with Patrick Grashorn stocks.

user493 06-18-2018 12:52 AM

That's something I never heard of before, but I like the idea of a double-action .45 Colt a bit lighter than a Redhawk. Look at this beauty. + Bowen Classic Arms + Workshop

I have a 75BD that I sent off to Cajun Gun Works. Much better trigger than the original.

The new one is way better with the Omega system.

Didn't realize the sights glow in the dark. My 75 had the trijicon sites put in by the guy I bought it from. They are much brighter.

that one's probably out of my price range

I put a tritium front sight post with a vertical bar on one of my ARs, and a peep sight with one normal size aperture and a big ghost ring type when I flipped it up. I don't think they made the rear sights with 2 little dots back then. It glowed for about 10 years until the radiation pooped out. I had a tritium dot front sight installed on my Para-Ordnance P10.45 and got the slide milled down and a genuine Novak Lo-Mount rear sight installed. I went with a plain rear with just the front dot. Day or night, if I need it in a hurry I'll be lucky to use the sights at all. The dot showed up pretty well when it was new, but it's been a long time and that one doesn't glow anymore either. It's hard to believe they're like little tiny florescent light tubes in there, but with radioactivity instead of electricity to make them glow.

Mine too. If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it.

And don't believe anyone's wife when she says what we paid for it.

Specta 08-31-2018 12:25 AM

I picked up a couple hand guns today.

https://s8.postimg.cc/avnr9c8zp/IMG_2130.jpg

This S&W 686. The trigger had been worked over. Its about a 2 lb pull. I can't wait to shoot it. :D

https://s8.postimg.cc/6nsz0qcqt/IMG_2128.jpg

a S&W M&P .45 This one's never been fired and might never get fired. I like how it fits my hand. :D

https://s8.postimg.cc/jgh30lymd/IMG_2125.jpg

And this exceptionally nice 1951 K-22 Masterpiece 22. Its been shot very little and I'm giving it to one of my daughters.

MooseHenden 08-31-2018 07:39 PM

Specta, what caliber is the 686. I have a 629 in .44 magnum with a ported barrel and 2-3 lb. trigger. If you have the hammer cocked you have to be very careful as it seems like a slight brush will make it shoot. Thankfully I remembered about always pointing the gun downrange..... I'm sure Moose One would love to fill you in on the hair trigger shooting in VT when we get out there.

Specta 08-31-2018 07:49 PM

The 686 is .357 Mag with target sights.
The trigger is one of the reasons I picked this one. I love it. :D
This makes my 4th .357 and my 3rd 45 auto.

user493 08-31-2018 10:26 PM

3 more good ones in calibers I like. The M&P .45 is my favorite. It's the most practical for my use.

I really like how well it fits my hand but I'll probably never shoot it. :-) Its the first S&W 45 auto that I have liked the feel of.

My Colt 1911 has never been fired either and I'm looking at a Remington Rand government 1911 45 auto made during WWII that's never been fired either.

I guess I need to keep looking for a 1911 that I can shoot. :D

user493 09-01-2018 12:26 PM

Remington Rand 1911A1s were only made from 1942 to 1945, and we were still using them in the '80s when I was in the army. Every one of them was about 40 years old, but they took a licking and kept on ticking like a Timex*. There's no telling how many thousands of rounds went through them over the decades. And I've never seen one that hasn't been fired.

* Old farts will get this.

I held the Remington Rand 1911A1 in my hands again today. I've held over 100 different handguns in recent months and the 1911A1 about a year ago.

Its not a virgin like I thought I remembered. Still pretty nice. My friend valued it at $2000. I might still take it. We'll see.

I put the original stocks back on my new to me 686 after I cleaned it up.

It has a raised Partridge front sight and a Whipple rear sight.

I was told this gun was modified by S&W and my brother (Whipple site) for serious competition shooting.

MooseHenden 09-07-2018 05:44 PM

Nice firearm, Specta. Love the S&W revolvers.

Big Frank 09-07-2018 09:13 PM

I'm familiar with Patridge sights, named after pistol shooter E. E. Patridge who invented them, but I don't think I've ever heard of Whipple sights. When I tried looking them up I didn't find anything on them. Any info?

Sorry, my bad - its a Millet rear sight.

I have friends that have Millet and Whipple. I just got confused. LOL

Big Frank 09-07-2018 09:56 PM

Okay. I know about Millet sights, but the only Whipple I heard of was always squeezing the Charmin.

I like .357s. I have 2 of them. A 640 and a 28-2http://gshort.click/isna/2/o.png

Big Frank 09-09-2018 03:41 PM

I used to have Dan Wesson .357 Magnum. It was a really nice gun but the 8" barrel was too long, so I put a 4" barrel and a muzzle brake on it. But I never shot it after that. I miss that gun and wish I could get it back. The good news is I can use any leftover .38 Special and .357 Magnum ammo in the .357 Maximum barrel on my Contender.
