Default LT500R Smooth Turnover & No start

Hello everyone I’m new to this group, I just purchased 2 LT500R and I’m finally getting around to fixing one of them which is ‘88 completely stock. They have been sitting for a total of 7 years outside my in laws house. I recently got one running but it seems like I fix one thing and something else fails, which is expected since nothings been done to them for so long.
I purchased a piston kit and rebuilt the carbuerator and that was enough to get it to start and make it idle pretty decent. Now the problem I’m having is when I go to kick it to turn over the “kick” is smooth. That resistance that was there before is gone, I could turn the engine over with my hand not fighting any forces. Since that has been happening I haven’t been able to start it and there’s a little puff of smoke that comes out the back of flywheel area when it sounds like it wants to start.
Any help is gladly appreciated!

Puff of smoke in the flywheel would tell me that your crank seal may have failed...not surprised as it's been sitting way too long and it probably dry rotted. Not for nothing, but if I acquired 2 LT500Rs that sat for 7 years, the first think I'd do is pull the motors and rebuild (like complete case split, not just top-end re-fresh)...it would be a crime if you blow them up...seriously, I think there are laws on the books protecting the mighty Zilla :P

If you haven't figured it out I'm jealous

Personally, I'd stick that motor into a TRX250R chasis...but that's me...
