2002 400ex rear master cylinder :( :disgust;
I think my rear master cylinder is blown b/c when i changed my brake pads I put some red harley brake fluid in there I dont think I should have. Now ehn I take the cables off & peer down inthe the master cylinder the brake fluid doesnt come to the top.....I also have no back brakes & have tried bleeding them with bleed gun & everything. Is that what happend or is there something else? How much is a rebuild kit or do I have to buy a new one? Thanks

That was a mistake. Harley uses DOT5 silicone brake fluid. Yours calls for DOT4. I don't think they're compatible! Plus, the silicone stuff is a lot harder to bleed. It can be a real battle. Drain that stuff out as completely as possible. Remove the line and blow it out, remove the caliper and hold it upside down, unbolt the m. cylinder and do the same. Rinse them out with brake cleaner, I use the Honda stuff as I know it's ok with the materials. Replace it with a DOT4 fluid. When you get it bled up, run a bunch of fluid through it. Unless you got a major leak somewhere, try that first before you go and buy all sorts of parts.
