Is a Foreman 450's handling ALOT better than....

I keep reading where the Foreman has a rougher ride than other atv's in the 400/450 range. Would the Foreman's ride be a big improvement over the Recon? Recently sold my Recon and keep flip flopping on what I should buy next. So I'm just wondering if I'd be gaining any comfort over the Recon.

I don't think there is that much difference, both aren't all that great, but I think the foreman is smoother. The recon is alot lighter and bouces very easily whereas the foreman will stay planted on the ground.

in 4x4 on hardpacked places it will feel uncomfortable, the ease of steering isnt good.

The Foreman and Recon are similar, it is just that the Foreman is 200 lb heavier and beefier in every respect. The Foreman's dual shocks and heavy suspension components are really noticeable if you have a chance to compare them side to side. It is like the difference between a sports car and a minitank. I have ridden them both and like both. I chose the Foreman for chores, low center of gravity, stable and pulls like a tractor. My son likes the smaller size for fun, light, agile and will do donuts forever. Within it's limitations - slow to medium speed pulling and hauling, I find the Foreman comfortable. By slow to medium speed, I mean under 20mph. I have had very little opportunity to operate the Foreman any faster. I did get on a paved road once, to see how fast it would go and it did not want to go over an indicated 40 mph.

One of the reasons I was considering a sport quad is the better suspension. I like the idea of the Foreman for pulling my boat around and for winter use. I just need a more comfortable ride because my back isn't what it used to be. One day I was riding up a dirt road at about 25mph with the Recon and hit a bump where they were "fixing" the road. It felt like someone punched me in my lower back. I never had this problem when I was riding my Warrior. That's why I was wondering if the Foreman 450 would have a better ride. I'd hate to get one and have a similar problem to the Recon.

I know exactly what you are talking about with your back. I resign myself to staying under 20mph. Since I needed an ATV for chores, a sport ATV was never a consideration for me.

I know an ATV with IRS may ride better, but to do chores, sometimes I have to ride on hill sides and make off camber turns. I am not interested in any ATV with a high center of gravity for safety reasons. I am quite satisfied with the Foreman ES. It is reliable, ground hugging, and can push through brush and thickets to get me to places that would be literally impossible to walk to. Since I can turn 4wd off, steering effort is minimal.

I don't mean to say the Foreman is the best trail ATV made, only that the Foreman works great for chores for me, even with my back. Somedays I can barely straighten up, my back is so sore, but the Foreman gets me out and back with no problems.

I got a 450 foreman and the ride is good. If you are comparing to a IRS machine then it is stiff but to all other solid axles it is just as good as any other. Good machine very hard to tip or lose control.

Best thing you could do is drive that Japanese piece of junk off a cliff. Then go buy a Polaris, they're less money, have way more power, independant suspension all around, liquid cooled, and disc brakes. Your Honda has none of these, and is slightly more expensive than the Polaris Sportsman 500 HO I just purchased. But thats just my opinion.
