Rancher ES won't go in reverse?
Before I make a trip to the Honda dealer I wanted to ask if anyone here has any ideas why my Rancher ES won't go in reverse. It was working fine until today. I push the reverse button down then pull the left hand brake lever and press the downshift button and nothing happens. No click and no reverse. The upshift and downshift buttons do work if I am going forward. I suspect something electronic has failed? If you have any ideas let me know. The failure is no big deal since the bike is still covered by warranty.
thanks, 45acp |

CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT 90 PERCENT OF THE SLACK IS OUT OF THE REV. CABLE YOU CAN ADJ. THIS ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE CABLE. THE CABLE CONNECTS TO THE REV. LEVER BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND SWINGARM YOU WILL SEE THE AJD. NUTS IF IT NEEDS ADJ. GOOD LUCK

Rancher ES won't go in reverse?
Check on the lower rear of the engine (near the pull start) for an electrical connector that has come loose. This is the reverse switch connection and it is common for it to unplug (usually because of a branch); this will cause the exact problem you described.

Rancher ES won't go in reverse?
ATVtech1 & 300EXRiderJay:
You were right on. The reverse switch connector was pulled off. I popped it back in place the and the quad shifts in reverse. Thanks again for your help. This saved me a trip to the dealership. Now back to riding and getting this baby broken in. 45acp |
Rancher ES won't go in reverse?
Good going, I'm glad you found the problem, this is a fairly common thing. 300exRiderJay, I like your "mini spark plug cover" description, I'll use that in the future if you don't mind.
