400 to 440 now won't start.
I have a 2001 400 EX, that I just had a Wiseco 440 kit installed, along with a cam and rocker arms. The problem is since I have had the kit installed is the bike will not start when it is cold. It will start almost instantly with a pull from another machine, but will not start on the starter. After it is warm it will start no problem on the starter. I have installed a new battery and I have had the starter rebuilt. Any more ideas as to what the problem could be.
Ohter info: K&N power kit installed, rev delimiter installed, FMF power bomb header and white Bros. e series slip on installed. (all these were installed before, and the bike started fine.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

i assume you don't run an aftermarket rev box??
i would raise the pilot jet up to a 42 and that should help. also, i would imagine that the new cam your running doesn't have the decompression mechanism on the cam unless it is a honda cam. this would make the bike a little harder to start. you might consider buying a new plug too. |

i had the same thing with mine i didnt have enough copression to start its a quike easy check and cheap for a mechanic to do and make sure your valves are adjusted right or its not going to start

Cals, I am running an aftermarket rev box, I guess in my description I called it a rev delimiter. I will try raising the pilot jet to a 42 and see if that helps, I did put a new plug in, but I will change that at the same time.
fred600, I know you should never assume anything, but I assumed that with the new kit installed there would be all kinds of compression. Thanks for the replies. |

mine wouldn't start at all it was the decompression lope we removed it now it starts fine also heard that problem is a sign of cdi going bad.

depending on the brand of the rev box, they make the bike hard to start in cold weather too.

What he said......
Ditch the box, that motor signs off alot before the rev limit anyway...... |

Guess I will try that first, sounds like the easiest thing to try.

Check the decompressor, I have seen a few not start because of it.
