Ok, so I'm thouroughly confused about these case savers. I have been told the 400ex has a stock case saver. Is this the part of the front sprocket cover? Is it adequate? What do you think of those aftermarket case savers? Can I still use my stock sprocket cover if I get an aftermarket case saver? Let see some pics of these things.

Yes, they have a case saver built in with the stock sprocket cover. I can only assume they work good. No, you can't use your cover with and aftermarket case saver. With an aftermarket case saver your sprocket is fully exposed with no cover. Some people modify their cover to work with an aftermarket one but it wasn't designed with that intention and looks kinda crappy.

 

I like my sprocket cover. I don't think I'm gonna go with an aftermarket case saver.

 

Yeah, I was a little confused when I bought mine also. A buddie said I needed one or I'll crack my case with the chain. Well low and behold, after I ordered my aftermarket one did I realize that it had one from the factory.
