Honda 300 GPS speed
#1
I took the old 89 model 300 2wd out for a GPS top speed test yesterday and was totally blown away. Level pavement, 50-51 mph. It took a while to get there but it just kept on rising. 43-50 took forever. This was something. My AC 500 will get 52 max on level pavement with the GPS. It is .5 mph off from my 2000 silverado at 50mph, so I would have to call the GPS a good source.
Does this dispell any claims that a 300 honda will only go 40? Its not carrying around the 4wd differential, but it is 11 years old and beat to hell. I can remember back in 97 when I was on the old forum here and a ton of guys were slamming me for saying that I thought my 300 would do 50. They are mostly gone from here now, but I would have liked to hear them come back and tell me that a GPS is worthless and inaccurate.
With this in consideration, I would think the Rancher 2wd would be 1-2 mph faster at least. Anyone else used a GPS to check speed?

My 01' Rancher 4x4 ES does 53 level, and my friend that has a 99 300 2 wheel drive goes as fast as me, I just have better accelleration.
He also has big blackwater tires, making a higher top speed. That would affect it. My rancher is stock (tires).
So yes, a 300 does go that fast

The 300 2WD does go much faster on the road than 40. I have seen them keep up with my stock Wolverine and a Rancher S 4x4.
The 300 4x4 seems to be slower. Maybe that is where the 40mph reference is too?
The 300 Honda was a good machine that we will see around for many years.
