Sparks ... All I'll Ever Buy

I just recently put on a sparks X-6 complete exhaust system on my 04 400ex, and i could really tell a huge diff in power. This pipe is awesome and i love the sound. I was told that i would lose a little bit of bottom end power, which i did, but in return i gained a hell of alot more topend power. Before i could hold my bike wide open in 5th gear all day long and never hit the rev limiter. But with the pipe now, it pullls so much harder up top that im hitting the rev limit in 5th gear. So i think i am going to put the WB rev box on my bike to see if this will solve the prob. Also i am running the stock gearing if anyone is woundering. Has anyone had this happen to them? Thanks.

To help, you might want to drop one tooth on the front. The WB rev box/cdi is probably the best choice for your mods. It still has some decent low end but will do very well in the high RPM range. For you, I would stay away from the Big Gun CDI. It's very good at high RPM, but the curve is too advanced for low end power. If you are already poor with your low end, that would just compound your low end problem. You will have cold starting problems with the White Bros CDI. Be ready to swap to the stock Rev Box to get her warmed up first, then switch to the White Bros CDI. Be aware that the White Bros CDI has virtually no rev limit.

What do you mean the WB has virtually no rev limit? This rev box is only suppost to raise the rev limit 1000 rpm's over stock. And i also have ran a 14 tooth on the front liked it for a while, but like the 15 better now, seems to pull harder. And when i said i lost a lil bit of bottom, that was it, only lost just a lil, but nothing for me to worry about bc the gains everywhere else are worth it to me.

I stand corrected. The older White Bros CDI had a rev limit of 13.5 K. The new ones are only 1000 RPM over stock.

I thought you asked my opinion on the low end when you said "Has anyone had this happen to them?"

Like I suggested before, the white bros CDI wont give you any gains in the low RPM end, in fact, if you switch to the White Bros CDI, you may even get more of a loss at the low end over the stock rev box! Thats why I suggested that you may want to go down one more tooth to compensate. With the higher rev limit, in your case 1000 rpms, you probably will still gain some top end speed with the WB CDI and -1 tooth in the front. You'll also gain quickness gains while climbing to higher RPMs - which of course wins races! But if you like your top end speed, and dont care about low end RPMs, keep your gearing the same, and run the WB rev box to help in avoiding the current stock rev limit.

Clear as mud?

Thanks for your helpful input. I didnt know that the old boxes has a 13.5 rev limit. I was asking your opinion but it was not about the low end power that i lost, sorry i should have made my question clearier. But im not saying that the info you gave me was not appreciated, bc it was, but my real question was Has anyone ever hit the stock rev limit in 5th gear? And if so what did you do to stop it from hitting the limiter. Thanks again.

They make good power but there quality could use some work. Keep your eye on the middle mount where its welded to the pipe. I've had 2 of them brake there. Within a couple weeks of being new.

You could try a 16 tooth sprocket and see if it fits your riding style. It will keep you from hitting the rev limiter so quick.

NCguy84,

Sparks pipes are good. They fall off on the top end though comparted to the LTE duals. But, there is NOTHING wrong with a sparks pipe - they make excellent power.

Thanks for all the replys. Yes i did have the PC on b4 the sparks, but the PC was using the stock head pipe, and the sparks is a full system. There was a huge diff in power with the sparks compaired to the PC. Also i know about the mount that has a tendacy to break, buddy of mine had his break about after a month of having it. And the only reason i was going to put the WB rev box on was bc i purchased it for $45 and it was a good deal considering the prices of the new boxes. I will put the box on this weekend and see if that helps my problem. But thanks again for all the info.

The civic pic i just edited it in Paint Brush so that my lic. plate would not show up. But i dont have the car anymore, i sold it. Used it to pay off my Tahoe, and buy some parts for my 400ex.
