Looking for info from all you honda experts on which trans. is better? Which will last longer? Pros and cons.

The Rincon has no engine braking at low speed. Not the hot ticket for descending steep rocky technical terrain!

Depends what you are useing it for. I would go for the rubicon myself

I believe what the Rincon was designed for it has the better transmission of the two. On the other hand, what the Rubicon was designed for, it has the better transmission.

Mechanical CVT vs a mini automotive 3 spd

Personally I dont think the torque converter equipped Rincon trans holds a candle to the proven hondamatic. If both were availible in the Rincon I dont believe Honda would find reason to produce the 3 speed, there wouldnt be sufficient customer demand. At least the educated ones like the members of this forum.

I have a Rubicon with 26" 589s and I have a friend that had a Rincon with Outlaws. The Rincon just isn't geared low enough to pull mud tires through thick mud. My Rubicon would just lug its way right past it. He ended up trading his for a Grizz. I think if they added a couple more gears or put a low range in the Rincon it would be a much needed improvement. If you plan on spending most of your time at higher speeds then the Rincon is the better choice as it will just smoke past a Rubicon, but if you spend alot of time at low speeds or plan on putting large tires on and hitting the mud then the Rubi is the better choice. I know its off topic but what makes the Rincon superior is its ride compared to the rubicon. Just my 2 cents.

If honda had any sense, they would admit fault and put the rubicon transmission in the Rincon.

The rincon basically has the same transmission as a honda civic, the rubicons has much more torque.

Honda actually tried to work the Hondamatic into the Rincon, but didn't feel it would hold up to the strain of the 650 motor. That's why they went with the 3 spd.. If they could beef up the Hondamatic to match the 650 (or bigger) motor, they could actually be on top again. As it stands now, it looks like they're out of the running.
