Default 03 Rubicon front axle "click"

Im thinking a bad axle.... at times when riding it pulls to the right real quick and real hard, maybe every 15-20 seconds on a straight ride, no bumps, easily detected. Also get a clicking when turning a sharp radius, like doing dougnuts..

Is my guess right?

Probably, but it seems a little strange for a Rubicon to need an axle unless a boot tore and was ridden that way for awhile, or you have a lift kit installed (then expect your axles to go bad). How many miles do you have on yours now Chad? One other possibility...a while back, Honda screwed up at the factory and didn't tighten some internal front differenial bolts properly. Eventually they'd back out far enough to rub on the differential case and eventually destroy it by machining a big whole in the side. We didn't see a lot of that but did have a few. I'm thinkin that was before 03 though. And Honda bought that repair, kinda with their tail between their legs. Anyway, sounds like something drastic is definitely goin on with yours, better get it fixed.

Part of my pre and post-ride inspection are the CV boots. Axles are too much $$.

Clicking is likely to be from a corroded CV joint.

I do not think the outer CV joint is rebuildable if corroded.

Good thing about SRA is 1/2 the boots of an IRS.

Anyone ever try the Kevlar fabric boot protectors from Yamaha?

I agree with propnut. Sounds like you might have a bad CV joint. Not too hard to fix, but parts are expensive.

Don't know how much the Honda axles are. Saw some on Ebay for a great price of $250 for both.
(Honda 500 Rubicon cv axles Item number: 4521895478 )

My 98 Arctic Cat was $250 for one. That's for the shaft and outer CV, not the complete axle (1/2 of the inner CV - which should be OK if the boot isn't torn).

I just read an alternate procedure for changing these in the AC forum without needing a puller for the axle. Not sure if it will work on the Honda as I have not had to work on it yet (why I bought a Honda).

I did have a downed tree poke a hole in my plastic boot guard. Saw the tree, just couldn't stop in time. Was relieved to see it just broke the guard.
