How often do you lube your cables?

All of my cables appear ok at 250 miles, except for the choke. It is tight! I lubed with silicone spray, but did not appear to help. Perhaps there is a screw or nut that needs to be loosened.

Your owner's manual probably has an interval listed, Doc; the proper way to lubricate cables involves a cool tool, something like a floppy funnel. The cable sheath enters the funnel from the bottom, the funnel is filled with lubricant, then its top end sealed and the funnel is "squoze," forcing the joy-juice down inside (you hope!) the cable sheath, lubricating both the sheath and the enclosed wire rope. I imagine a device of this nature is cataloged by Dennis Kirk, et al; your friendly local ATV dealership probably has one, just waiting for you! If you take it to the shop, bring money; it's a kinda labor-intensive task, disconnecting, lubricating, reconnecting and maybe adjusting all the cables. Good luck!

i've used a funnel and hose. place the funnel with the hose over top the cable. now place a hose clamp around the hose and cable to seal it. also clamp where the funnel and hose connect. dump some lube down funnel(something light like wd40 to start). then place a rag in the funnel and use a air nozzle and blast air through the rag to force the lube down the cable. take time to perfect this method, but it works. later - dana

Any motorcycle/quad shop will have cable lube. It's a bottle with a tiny metal tube attached at the tip. Slide it in the cable sheath and squeeze.

I usually do mine twice a year. BUY a cable lube tool! They are cheap and work excellent. Unhook the cable, clamp on the device, insert the tube on the aerosol can of cable lube and push the button. The spray is forced in the cable housing under pressureand will usually come out the other end it a few seconds. They will work like new. The first time I used one I was sold on it. I didnt realize how tight my cables had become because it is a gradual thing over time and you dont notice it changing.
