86 TRX 250r suspension
#1
I need some input on the suspension for my 86 TRX 250R, It needs some serious upgrading to handle my 220 lbs. I mainly ride semi high speed desert trails, with a few trips to the dunes.
Since $ is an issue, I was considering the Works Perf dual or triple rate fronts without the res., and having a local shop revalve, and respring, the back. How do the works w/o res. compare with other systems out there?
Also, instead of buying aftermarket a arms for his 400ex, my neighbor simply flipped the front wheels around and used the offset to gain a wider track up front. (he welded the valve hole shut on the original side, and drilled a new one on the other side.) Any opinions, or experience, with doing this? He seems pretty satisfied.

I've been running offset tires/wheels on the front of my R for quite awhile. The only problem has been that if you hit a bump and aren't paying 100% attention, it can rip the bars out of your hands. This once caused my wife to lose control and she almost did a 180 before she rolled over. I have since put new wheels on the front of her machine, just wider (6" wide with 3" offset each side). Mine are 6" wide with 2" inside, 4" outside offset. We ride desert and jeep trails and a lot of Glamis. The width helps a lot.
