Default trx450r oil capacity.

This is the first oil change. Anyone know how much oil it takes? I cant find my manual. There is two oil fill caps. One on each side of the engine. the left side has a round glass see through level with a high & low marking on it. There are no dipsticks. is one side tranny and the other oil? Please help thanks.

The side with the window is for the engine oil. It holds approx. .82 quarts of oil. Fill it to that capacity, start it, let it run a couple minutes, then let it sit a couple minutes. At this point the oil level should be at the high mark on the window. If its not add a lttle more. Careful not to overfill.

No problem!

I noticed that you said you lost yours. Did you take it out of the compartment under the seat. I just remember the dealer not telling me where it was. I assumed it was with all the paper work.

The other side is trans oil. Do yourself a favor and run REAL transmission lube in there (just like you would run in the trans of a 2-stroke.....it's no different), instead of wimpy engine oil like you are forced to run in all the others where the trans and engine share the same oil. You are blessed to have the only quad where the engine and trans oil are seperate, so take advantage of it. My personal preference here is Maxima MTL. The trans holds 650 mL (cc), and its written on the case right below the full hole. Overfill it a little, take it for a short ride, then park it and open the check bolt and let the excess run out.

On the engine side, be sure to check your oil often. With so little oil in it, any leak or loss is critical! Change your oil and filter often, as well. My personal preference here is Maxima Ultra, ester synthetic oil.

Guys,
Just curious.. What happens if you overfill the engine and put let's say, 1 full qt. instead of .82?
