Hi,

I am new to the group here and I hope I don't make a bad first impression here with my first post!..What I am needing to do here is, ask a few questions, based on a need to use a Honda ATC 90 engine on my much beloved 1969 Honda Trail 90.

I've developed a physical handicap that prevents me from being able to use a conventional type of kick starter. This lead me to purchase a recently rebuilt ATC 90 engine, due to the fact it starts with a rope. OK, my problem is, how to hook the ATC alternator into the Trail 90 harness and have it the engine run and charge the battery. The ATC 90 has a two wire alternator pigtail, (one yellow, one black wire, which has a double female end. The stock Trail 90 engine has a three wire alt. pig tail, of which, the Pink wire goes to one side of the rectifier, the Yellow wire goes to the other side of the rectifer, and the White wire connects to a single feeder wire which terminates at the headlight switch.. Can I hook the Trail 90 headlight feeder wire into half of the receptical of the Black wire ATC, then snap one side of the Trail 90's rectifer into the the other half of that same double connector of the Black wire? I' m thinking the Yellow wire of the ATC 90 alt, would hook up to the wire feeding connecting to the other side of the rectifer..OF course the Green points wire will connect to the condenser wire...Will the stock 6 Volt rectifier and coil work with the ATC alternator?.. Does anyone have access to a ATC 90 wiring schematic they might could email me?

I hope I'm not asking the impossible here!..I welcome any and all insights and suggestions..

Thanks

Welcome to the forum! I have an ATC 90 and a manual for it. I can't send it so I'll try to explain it to you. The black wire goes to the coil and the yellow to the headlight switch. I think you'd be better off replacing the ATC 90 alternator with the one off the trail 90. Also the ATC is 6 volt too.
