Just had the 400ex Dyno'ed Time for some upgrades!!
 

Just got the dyno numbers back from our shop (It's nice to have a dyno) and Stock motor with a LTE dual setup and nothing else, 28 RWHP and 21LBFT of Torque. About what I thought, and not bad for a 5 year old stock motor.
Since the chassis and suspension are done, here are the ideas bouncing around...

Race gas or Alky, Probably race gas. (Since it isn't much more than Premium now)
High comp piston. bored to 416 if needed.
Complete flow work. Bigger valves, custom cam grind.
Carb swap, may use 450r setup.
Clutch upgrade.

Bottom line goal is 38-40 RWHP, and from what my engine guy has done so far, that seems real plauseable.

Then I'd have to buy the kit, when all this is off the shelf stuff....Plus I saw a KMS setup this weekend and our guy was having to figure out what the problems were. Seems there were a couple of design flaws that needed to be addressed.

I would consider getting a trx450r, you will never look back. You will spend just as much money to get the ex going as quick as a 450r is stock as selling the ex and getting the 450. I'm not saying this to be an idiot but I had a heavily modded ex and you will want even more power when you get to 38 with your ex. It won't be long and 06 450's will be going used for under 5 grand.

Trust me, I thought of that, but consider this:

The engine work is being done by our motor builder, and the last EX he built dyno'd at 42.5 hp on race gas to which I have access.
I am getting everything at cost, labor too.
The EX is paid off, and neither the 450r nor the YFZ has suspension near where I have my setup.
So for around $2000 worth of parts and labor, I will have something much more potent than my 400 is now, and I have had it for 5 years and it really suits me egronomically.
To get the 450 where I would want it, I would have to sell the EX, buy the 450, and then spend the money to have my shop build the a-arms and swingarm to my specs, and then order shocks that would be similar to what I have now.

I'm not looking to be the fastest, just faster.

I do, however, see where you are comming from and appreciate your opinion.
