I ride with a guy on a 400EX, one guy on a KX125, and another had a CR125 (Sold now). On the flat out areas both 125's beat the 400, along with the rest of our quads.
But someone said it right in an above post, the 125cc would seem weaker in a quad frame, with all the weight.

 

I was referring to the CR250 motor, not the CR125 motor in my original reply.

Before you race a 125 MX of any make, make sure you duck down from all the flying stone and dirt that will be thrown in your face for the entire drag.Even a new 80 mx will give you a run for your money.

The CR125 only has 5 gears, not six.

 

the CR125 has six gears......and it should be able to beat any stock 400ex....if not then I think you have a problem......

 

The CR125 DOES NOT HAVE 6 GEARS!!! The YZ 125 does but the CR125 does not. If you do not believe me go the Honda's website. Here I took the liberty of copying the link for you.

I don't know for a 125, but I can tell you a 400YZF smoked my banshee and my pal's scrambler on a hard gravel straightaway. It flew from the beiginning to the end. Easily. I think a 125 will smoke you off also.
BTW 125CRs now have 5 gears. They switched from 6 to 5 with the new aluminium frame. So stop arguing stupidly. I know this is right, since I'm always right.

 

With my Banshee I've raced a YZ125, and a CR125. I don't know if something was wrong with CR but the topend seemed about as fast as a Warrior. I gave him a head start and I flew by him like he was standing still. Now with the YZ we were dead even, I could even hear us shifting at the exact same time, but when we both reached 6th gear I just pulled away easily. But in all fairness, the YZ was totally stock, not even a pipe, and I have FMF pipes on my shee.
But to answer the original question. I do not think a 400EX will be able to beat a YZ125 in a drag race. A 400EX with some mods... Maybe, but probably not.
