works shocks?!?!

im on a tight budget. sooooo.... im gonna get works shocks but im gonna either get the front pair or the rear first. so what is usualy the one that bottoms out? are the rear weaker so they bottom out on jumps more, or the front?

the rear shocks tend to wear more that the font, beacuse they tend to be the ones that carry more load with the rider on the bike moving up and down over bumps ect......

Get the works for the front and then check ebay for a banshee rear shock ive herd they work well on the 250's

I was on a tight budget also... I got the tripple rate works shocks in the front. The entry level shocks with no res. There really nice and there really good for how cheap they are. I would get the front ones first. When you ride do like the bumps go up into your back? Im prob gonna get a rear shock soon from works. Thing is, the rear shock is more money than the 2 front ones.

You will improve your overall ride much more by replacing the front shocks than the rear. Works triple rate w/o reservoirs work very well, and probably cheaper for two than the single rear. If you can get a good deal on a used shock it might be worthwhile, but you have to be very carefull buying a used shock....it may be about worn out, unless you know exactly how many hours on it.

JMO, but I would steer away from Works shocks. My experiences with them have not been good. Two of my buddies had them on their 250Rs, and their seals tend to leak fairly quickly compared to other brands. You might be better off buying some used shocks off of Ebay. I'd take a set of Ohlins, Elkas, or Axis that been slightly used over brand new Works any day.

I don't disagree with 1bad250R, but how will you know the condition of used shocks on ebay?

We have run works shocks on the 88 250R, the 89 250R, the 97 Banshee, and the 01 Raptor for MANY years with zero problems. But I think the Ohlins, Elkas, and Axis are higher quality, and you pay more for them new. If you could find GOOD used shocks instead of new Works, that would be a cheaper route to go....since $$$ is the main driver here.

If I were you with the 250ex, I would not spend more than the Works cost (Works would be a major upgrade to stock)....and I would buy used shocks if I could be sure they were in good shape.

Are you sure you want to invest this kind of money in a 250ex?

The only difference between works and elka's are, elka's have a bigger shaft. Not by much but its alittle bigger then works, and elka's are more popular like its a well known brand.
