2006 450R Electric Start
I think I will get the Kick Start version instead also. I will drop a tooth on the front sprocket and get the HRC kit for it. Are there any special tools needed for the cam kit? I am a auto mechanic by trade so regular tools are not a problem. Any tips would be appreciated.

Try it with the stock gearing before lowering it to much....I had some "A" riders jump on it and they were 100% impressed with the 06 w/HRC kit....No more smooth Honda power...it hits hard, but very usable and friendly...the motor is very forgiving and will pull out of almost any situation with ease....I always hear people talk about HP and speed, but i would be more concerned with usable power...and that is what the 450R has this year....
The 06 is geared lower for trails, so get the quad, but do not take it home before having the HRC installed or you will be disappointed.....Honda must have designed the bike with the kit and then corked it up....I was not impressed in stock form...not impressed at all
You will also need to lok at handlebars because they are terrible. IMO I bought Renthals that said they were for a 400EX on tag for like $70, but the good thing about this is that the stock key and temp warning lights still fit underneath the bar pad...no need to relocate anything or buy a special kit
The Z400 is a solid bike, but it no 06 450R........A great quad for sure though
I also have a 400EX and it is a great bike...probably one of the best all around bikes made....
Coming off a Banshee you will need an 06 450R to have your speed rush fulfilled....My buddy used to flap his gums about how his worked Banshee would spank the 450R (stock...and he was right), but with the 06 HRC kit he quickly quieted down
Kick starting my 05 wasn't a big deal so you can't go wrong either way.
The 06 450R stock will not impress you....Make sure to get that kit thrown in on the deal and installed for free too
It is year end and Honda needs to move some units...so squeeze them for the kit

Ya, Thats what I thought. My shee was not stock either. I did a bunch of stuff to it. I'm sure the 450R should be fine. I am getting the HRC kit as you all suggested. I did think about the YZF450 also, But it seems everyone got one now. I will give Honda a shot again. I used to race motocross and started out on Honda I had no complaints.

2006 450R Electric Start
I saw the Baja 1000 winning quad at the cycle show and it was a 2006 450R electric start. This was surprise since the kick only would have been lighter and would seem to me to be more reliable since the electric start has no kick back up. So just a thought to be sure you don't pass up on the ES if it would be better for you than kick.

All electric start 450R's are having problems right now. Stalls and It seems the starter is not spinning the motor fast enough to start. As of right now i'm not sure what to get, I was looking at the 05/ 06 z400, But I hear they have clutch cover problems (rotting out). Thought about the YZF or the 700R but 7100 is a big chunk of change for a quad. Does anyone make a good trouble free quad anymore?????? 400ex is out of the question. I drove one and it was slow compared to what I'm use too. I'll hang out to april and see what happens with all these issues then make a decision.
