Hi guys! I'm new to ATVs so please bear with me, I have a dumb question. I just bought a 1986 Honda Fourtrax 250. It is a fourstroke,2-wheel drive. My question is: what is the designation of this thing. Is it a TRX, or an R or what? I need some parts and don't want to sound too stupid! Help me please!

is it a sport bike or a utility bike? Are you positive it's a four stroke?

there are 3 250 models honda used to make that i know of 2 sport and one utility. the 2 sport are both TRX one is a trx250r(2 stroke) and the other is a trx250x almost like a 300ex but a kickstart and a little less power. not sure about the utility one

Well its not an R,because your saying its a 4stroke.Does it have racks? If it does its the trx250 utility, this is the 4wheeler that took the Big Red three wheelers place, they used the same engine and tranny.Should be a good 4wheeler for ya if thats what it is.I wish I still had my Big Red.

If its the utility(the one with the weird front suspension, racks, shaft drive) then its a 1986 Honda Fourtrax 250 Shaft Drive.I think thats what they are called. It also has a backup kickstart.

Thanks for all the information! Since it does have front and rear racks and a backup kick start, it must be the TRX Utility. My rear differential case is cracked in half. Is the case from the Big Red the same? Is a case still available from Honda? The plastic is also baaad! Maier doesn't seem to have it. Is anything else available? Thanks, Tom (Cheesehead)

You can still get just about any part from Honda if your willing to pay for it. I restored a 1974 XL100 bike a few years back and was shocked that almost everything was still available to buy.

You can buy alot of new parts from the dealer, even plastic.

Try to look on the frame for a sticker that tells some info. It's a TRX250 something or other. Not an X or an R.

Maier does make plastic for it.It just came out this summer.
