If you want to know about "wenches", I think that's a different web site!

can't go wrong with a warn 2.5ci or 2.5ce. I'd strongly suggest getting one with synthetic rope. I haven't broken a cable ever, but i'd hate to see what happens if i do.

you could try a ramsey 2.5 also-- i've never used one, but i hear they are good winches, and a lil cheaper

I have a Warn 1700 on my 05 Rubicon. What you have to figure if you are pulling something you can only pull the weight of the quad plus the weight of you. For me that is 625 for the quad inc. gas plus 240lb(I'm 6'5"). So if you are thinking of pulling a truck out of a mudhole forget it. Unless you use a ****** block and chain the quad to a tree you will only pull your weight of you and the quad. I think you would be fine with a 1500 or 1700. Check out Ramsey...they have a lifetime guarntee. But check it out because some are just on the gears. I still use a cable but hopefully in the future I'll switch to a synthetic rope. Makes rewinding much easier.

Well, i had a Warn 1700 on my Rancher and had nothing but problems because it wasnt sealed. If you're gonna be going through the "goo" often i would get one thats sealed. I know the 3000lb seems way too big, but im telling you. My winch will rip a boulder in half. I LOVE this thing. It dosent matter how stuck i am, or what kind of situation someone else is in, i can ALWAYS get them out with this thing. Never had a problem with the Warn 3000lb. But i'd recommend the Warn 2500lb.

I'm going to be getting a plow for my 450 Foreman before winter. I don't really have the need for a winch other than for the plow. Would it even be worth getting one? Or should I just get a plow with a manual hand lever to lift it up and down? What is an average price for a 1000 - 2000 lb winch?

If all your going to do is lift a plow. Find a harbour freight store in your area or possibly check them out on-line. They have a cheap winch for like $35. You can also add a warranty. A buddy of mine has one and the only problem he had was his dad used it to try loading a dually onto a trailer with it. It was only rated at 2000lbs. Yes it broke. But he took it back and got a new one. No more problems. Also you can get a cheap one from ebay. But you do get what you pay for. But at $35 thats pretty cheap.
