Rancher 400

I'm a newbe to this whole 4wheeler thing but I'd like to have something to go trial riding with a friend. I'm 6'3", 270 lbs. Would a Honda Rancher 400 AT 4x4 be powerful enough for me, is this a good machine? Thanks.

well i have one and LOVE it. it'll go damn neer anywhere i ever asked it to. i weigh 200 and with my wife and son aboard we are just over 350 and it does just fine we ride trails and go from 3500 ft elavation all the way to 10500 with no problems. i think you'll be happy. it's a nice one. but it's not a stump puller. or wa major work horse. try and test ride them and see what you like. i love mine...

Can you be more specific about your riding conditions??? All you said was "trail" riding. Is that loamey eastern trails, muddy trails, rocky mountain trails, desert trails ???

What do others in your area ride???

We have one and its a nice machine. But, as big as you are I would say look for something else. I have a Rincon and when I get on the Rancher it just seems very small. I am much more comfortable on the Rincon. Dont get me wrong. I am not trying to push you toward a Rincon, it just seems that the Rancher is small for me and I am 6ft and 245.
Maybe a Rubicon. More versatile, will pull a load, has low range, disc brakes on front, same type of automatic that the Rancher AT has but more options, bigger seat, etc...

I'm 6' and 300 lbs and I love my ranchers. They are a little smaller than my kodiak but they are also eisier to handle on the trails. I can ride them all day with no problem. I don't know how the 400 compares to the 350's that I have but unless your looking for a strick work machine I think you'd be okay.

I'd try to get a good trail ride in before you buy.
