Have you checked the valves?
Run a compression check to see if it's where it should be. |
Recon won't start
have not performed comp. test, sounds to be good, what should it be anyway. All I can get it do is catch on fire out carb no pop or anything. Spins over fine so I wouldn't suspect a valve. I've run out of ideas , any help please.

If it's catching fuel on fire in the carb then that means the plug is firing while the intake valve is open.
Has the head been off the engine or the chain that turns the camshaft been disconnected at any time? |
Recon won't start
Has the recon just started this problem when you put in the new plug or have you taken it through water or done anything to the quad currently that may have started this prob or did it just randomly start while riding?

Carb gummed up? did it have old gas in it before? Could be not getting enough fuel. Try taking the air filter off and spraying some starter fluid into the carb/head then crank her over see if that makes a difference.

I was thinking it had to do something with the jets also, but I want to see if when the symptoms started.

Recon won't start
It's not my bike. My buddy brought it to me to get running, he got it from someone that had it just sitting under a shed.

Well can you find otu if anything has been messed with lately and anything that may have caused the prob...from what you have mentioned I would say you are having a carb problem and it will need some cleaning and maybe servicing.
