I own a 88 250x and the chain was loose so I went back to tighten it and it would not move the way it is supposed to go to get tighter.I already loosened the allen screws.I took the bolt off in the under middle side of the swingarm and it still wouldn't move and a string of rubber 6 inches long has come out next to the carrier. How can I tighten it? Race in few days, help will greatly be appreciated. Thanks

will it move at all?

maybe your chain is so old that its tightened to the max?

My chain is less than a year old and the carrier will move to get loose,I think the carrier is as far over as it can go and if it is can someone tell me how to reset it?

try loosening itas far as it will go......take the chain off.......put it back on....tighten up....it worked for me once

If the chain is less than a yr old and is not worn. move the carrier to the looser adjustment and remove one link from the chain.

this is probobly wrong but check it anyways. when u loosen one allen head screw the other gets tighter. so to get the thing loose you have to turn one like 3 or 4 times then do the other then go back and so on

Sounds to me that you have a chain that is shot. Grab the chain at about 3 o'clock on the rear sproket and pull it away. If you can get a pencil between the proket and the chain it is shot. Also, look at the teeth on the prokets and see if they are curved to the front. As you know they are supposed to be straight up and down. I am saying all of this because you said that you coukd move the carrier forward and when coming back it did not tighten up the chain.
