I have an 86 Honda TRX 200SX that I just bought and it has no spark, I need to know what steps I should take to fix this. The neutral light is on and the bike turns over fine with the new battery but no spark. I put a new plug in with no luck, I have checked all the wire connections and they all look good. The transmission was taken apart and put back together by the previous owner and they say the gears seem to be mixed up? Is this possible? Any help with either topic would be great.

 

I would start by checking the kill switch, and ignition switch, they may have gone bad or may have a short causing them to kill the fire from the cdi. If that tests ok then go to your coil, an easy way to test that is just to hook up a coil you know to be good, or use a testing meter. 3rd option would be a bad cdi box, although this is pretty uncommon failure in my experience however it is still a possibility. if you need more detailed instructions on testing the cdi or wiring email me and ill be glad to help. I don't think the problem lies in your gear box. if the gears were off I don't think the starter would turn over with it in gear, can't remember on that particular model though. Hope this helps.
