Rancher 350 ES shift problem

I own a 2005 Honda Rancher 350 4X4 ES and need help.It started by not wanting to shift up or down after you got into first or reverse. The display would only flash that you were in first or reverse. If you cut the bike off it would start to work again. This kept getting worse til finally it wont even shift.I have changed my angle sensor and the problem still persists.I do not know if I have to reset the computer or what I need to do next.

We had a slightly different problem with the transmission that could possibly relate to your problem. After sitting awhile the battery would drain and would not allow us to shift the transmission from first gear or reverse to neutral to be able to start the ATV (we always park it in gear). When there is a low battery, the electric shift will not work. For us to start the ATV we had to manually shift the transmission to neutral, using the provided factory tool.. This seems strange since the battery could still start the ATV. After we fully charged the battery, the problem went away. Obviously, the transmission draws quite a bit of power. Just an idea, check the battery, and if it's not fully charged or bad, charge/replace the battery and see if the problem goes away. Hope this helps. Let us know if it does. If it's something else, I would like to know. Just in case we ever have this problem with our Rancher.

WWAAAYYYY COOOOL!!!! So glad that it just needed more battery juice. I like the simple solutions! I hope you had a camera with you when you sank your Rancher....I would like to see that picture! You could post it in "the worst stuck" photos forum!

One thing we've done with both of our ES Honda's is put a trickle charger on the battery. That way we never have the low battery/shift problem again. The wiring harness mounts on the battery posts (and is left there), and plugs straight into the charger. All we have to do is plug it in to trickle charge it. We bought them at Walmart for around $18 a piece.
