I replaced the valve cover gasket because it was leaking put everything back together and it wouldnt start I replaced the spark plug, cleaned the carb, charged the battery, adjusted the valves and made sure it was top dead center and now it turns over but wont start I have tried staring fluid and it back fires but thats it, open to any ideas to fix thanks

 

"Cleaned the carb" can mean a lot of things from just wiping it down to removing it and completely disassembling it and blowing it out with compresses air The latter could cause what you're describing.

"Made sure it was top dead center" could also be a cause. How did you determine it was top dead center? Was it TDC on the compression stroke?

I'm not a tech, just a weekend warrior like yourself, but just went through a lot of what you're describing, so I am just asking questions to help clarify.

 

did u take the carb apart and clean it, is the needle stuck in it, it could be a number of things even a little wire
