2001 Honda Rancher won't shift into reverse.

Hey guys got the shift motor problem fixed and all works fine. I had it on jack stands and with the tires off and it would shift through all the gears and downshift, it would also go into reverse. I put it back on its sneakers today and the damn thing won't shift into reverse. I can up and down shift with no problems, can even put it into reverse with a wrench, but it will not shift into reverse with the electric shift. When i manually put it into reverse it will shift out with no problems, I just cant figure out what the problem is...

Try your manual shifter if that works your wire is probly off that comes from wiring harness to under the engine plugs in kinda like a end of a spark plug. I just had to fix mine because the end of wire was broke.

Your reverse switch wire is off .. This is it beside the reverse lock-out lever/cable at the lower rear of the engine ..

have an 04 Honda rancher Es 350. There’s a clamp on the bottom of the wiring going from the reverse switch on the handle under the frame. When it is connected it will shift into reverse but will not shift anywhere else or even act like it’s trying. When it’s disconnected it will shift through all the gears it just won’t go into reverse. Any ideas?!

"the reverse switch on the handle under the frame."

The reverse switch sticks out of the engine case, and there isn't a handle under the frame. There is a lever, operated by a Bowden cable attached to the left hand brake lever. When you press the red button & pull the brake lever, this cable moves the one under the back of the engine, to allow the shift drum inside to move into reverse. On ES models a switch is also shorted to earth by this movement of the lever, to allow the ES motor to shift downwards out of neutral into reverse.

Yeah, i worded that completely wrong. I meant from the left brake running under the motor. So any ideas why when it will shift into reverse it won’t shift out? But when it doesn’t shift into reverse it will shift through all the gears fine, but won’t go into reverse?

So it is the Bowden cable you disconnect to get other gears to work? If so your cable needs adjustment, just in front of the handlebar lever. Or it could be seized, so you may need a new cable.
