TRX450R upgrade to a stage 2 hotcam
I have 2005 TRX450R with a full FMF factory 4 pipe, stage 2 dynojet (180), 13 tooth front sprocket and proflow intake. I was down at the dunes this weekend and thought it had some good pull in the sand, but thought it needed some more hit. I'm wondering if the stage 2 hotcam will make a noticable gain. I raced some YFZ's and they took me everytime by a bike length. I pretty sure they were well modifed as well.
Thanks in advance for the insight.

OK, go ahead and put in the hotcam, you will notice some top end gains. If you haven't already done so, cut open the top of your airbox lid (HRC style).
You may then want to bump up to a 185 main jet, a 48 pilot and drop the clip on your needle to the bottom.
I started out by doing the hotcam stage II with an FMF Q4 pipe. I did the airbox mod and the jetting changes and really liked the power gains.
I then went to an Athena 480 jug and had the head ported and polished and added a Yoshimura full system. I also went with a 13 tooth front sprocket but I also went with a 37 tooth rear sprocket. This is a real good set up for the dunes, IMO.

I have the proflow intake on the bike right now, is thier a way to get rid of the black honda intake tube from the carb to the filter. Not sure what the purpose of air pocket part of the intake is?
I'll try the 185 main jet and see how she does.
and........ is thier a better way to go than the stage 2 hotcam?
Thanks for the help.

The HRC cam will give you more torque than a stage 2 hotcam. The hotcam 2 shows a little more topend on paper, but most feel the hrc over revs, also. I had a hot cam 2 in mine and had oiling problems. The cam got ruined along with most of the top end. When buying new parts I bought the HRC cam, but haven't got to ride it yet.
You can get an airbox eliminator kit, from ESR. It comes with a new intake and a k&n filter. It works great until you go through water.
