Honda 450 Rear End Leak

I recently changed the gear lube in the rear-end on my 450S. I have never had a leak before. I noticed the day after changing the lube that I have lube leaking out of the axle housing next to the left wheel.

Is there suppose to be lube in the axle housing. And if not is there a oil seal on the other end of the axle housing. Will the read end have to be taken apart to fix this problem??

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I dont think your supposed to have gear oil in the axle tube in a Foreman....there's never been any in mine. There is a seal on the differential, to get at it you have to take the wheel off, take the hub off, unbolt the shock, take the differential skid plate off and take off the 4 bolts holding the tube in place. There's also an oil seal on the end of the axle tube for the outer wheel bearing...if its leaking oil there that seal is probably toast too. If thats the case you might not have an oil leak but are seeing dirty water mixed with rust and wheel bearing grease.

Replace the outer seal, bearing and the 0-ring seal where the axle tube bolts to the differential.

With all that removed, clean the diff with brake clean, refill the differential and operate the bike (CAREFULLY) on stands to check for leaks around the inner oil seal.

I'm almost 100% sure that it is Gear Lube because I have been dripping out of the axle tube for about 4-5 days very slowly. If the inter-seal is bad will the Differental have to be taken apart in order to install a new seal??

Sorry I made a typo. I meant to say that it has been dripping out of the axle tube for about 4-5 days. And I have been having to clean it off of the Left wheel/tire and then the floor. This is the reason I think it could be both seals. What are your thoughts??

Could be, I've never had an inner seal go so I'm unsure if it has to come apart or not. If its leaking past the outer seal then the outer seal isnt keeping water out either so yeah replace that, the bearing and oring seal too.
