Any thought's on power-steering vs. manual steering?

I like the recon, but not sure about the power-steering. It seems to me like it is just something else to break down.

It is my understanding that recon's are not scheduled to have power steering in the near future. Our Recon is so nimble and light that it doesn't need power steering.

Wait a minute I thought Honda's never broke LOL JK.

I would by it just for the fact that if you go to resell it it you will get that much more out of it! And jcdc is correct the Rancher is the only new model reciving PS!

jc, I think your right on the power steering. I think I will skip it. It adds weight, complexity and cost.

I am starting to lean more towards the Rancher over the Big Bear now...... Still the only concern I have is clearance.

Both the Rancher and Rancher AT will have optional PS beginning in 09 (Forman 500 already had it). Recon does not come with it...and probably never should!

What the reviewer's have said about PS is that it acts more like a terrific steering damper, than it does like PS on your car. You know those times when you hit a root and it tries to wrench the bars from your hands....that is what it is great for. If one is so weak that they need assistance in steering your quad, well then they shouldn't be riding in the first place.....

I have always run steering dampers on my higher end sport quads, but never on a utility. Seems to me, that a steering damper would be the more simple fix. (Lots of the Honda dirt bikes now come standard with steering dampers!)

You are sounding a little comfused. Go to the Honda web site and spend some time pouring over the descriptions and specs for the different machines that you might be interested in.....

I have been doing that consistently for the last two weeks.

I noticed I had a typo, and meant to write rancher, not recon.

Hack - I didn't realize you were talking ranger's instead of recon's.

RR - I tend to agree with your assumptions on questioning the need for power steering. However, we will seriously look at a rancher with power steering next year. The reason is that my better half had rotatorcuff surgery last January. Everything went well but her endurance in her right arm is not what it has been. She tends to wear out faster than a couple of years ago. Hopefully, power steering will help her stay on trails longer.

Sounds like it is made for her! She shouldn't have to fight the bars at all!
