Just signed up as well. Have a 400EX that hasn't been ridden in almost 4 years due to deployments for the military... Going to go through rework it this spring when I get home and get the beast up and running again

I actualy just bouhgt my 400ex last week. It is a 2000, all stock. Runs like a scalded dog. we have had it out several times and ran the piss out of it to see if she was 100%. So far so good no issues.

The poor guy was going through a foreclosure and had to dump it. I felt bad, but hey, ya win some and ya loose some.

Yes Welcome! The old 400EX's are pretty much bullet proof and there is quite a few mods that can be done to it as well!

Thank you all for the welcome.

A friend of mine had a 1999 400ex, he said the same thing about them being pretty much bullet proof, that is the reaason I bought mine.

His had a white brothers pipe, and a rev kit. Said his had a bit more SNAP than mine.

Is the slip on pipe and rev kit really worth cost? All we really do is trail ride.

His theory, " there is something about being able to lift the front end in any gear, and being able to run 70MPH."

Throw the on the slip on and rejet is a world of difference. I wouldn't do the rev box. 400ex will rev plenty high without the box. Instead save for a fmf powerbomb header and new filter.

I have the K&N filter already. How dificult is it to rejet?

Simple. It is a absolute must when you add an exhaust. You just remove the bowl from the bottom of the carb and use a nut driver, someone here can tell you what size, to unscrew the jet. Then reverse steps to add new one.

If its your first time you may or may not want to jut remove the carb and do it for a learning experience.

K&N's pass fine dirt particles!!! You get better performance, but the risk you take isn't worth it. I speak from personal experience here!!!

I highly recommend the ProDesign (ProFlow) adapter and foam filter (made by UNI), and an EHS Racing airbox lid with Outerwears....

I agree totally with the no K&N specially if you ride in dusty conditions
i'd get a UNI

Thanks for the info.

Here in South Fl, it is really not dusty. We get enough rain to keep the dust to a minimium. BUT, in the winter it dries up and can get dusty. I will look in to another filter for sure.

For what it's worth Dawg. I disagree. All though you need a outerwear and oil after every couple rides my K&N has yet to fail me. I was a K&N hater but, I have seen no signs of mine letting dust through. You can still replace it just because it IS a pain to have to clean and oil so often.
