I would first check the idle (slow) jet on your carb and make sure it's not plugged up. I had the same problem where the engine would turn over and it had good spark but wouldn't fire. The idle jet was completely plugged up. Here is a diagram of your carb and the idle jet is #33...

i just sold my 91 250X and when i got it,it did the same thing. check the fuel supply because if your getting a spark at the plug, then it really only leaves a fuel issue. like pinetag said its probably your carb, thats what was wrong with mine when i got it.

make sure and drain the old fuel out of that carb.turn the fuel off, turn the screw on the very bottom of your carb until fuel starts running out on the ground, let fuel drain until it stops coming out, turn screw all the way back in,turn fuel back on and try to start.

i would try to push start it a few times. after that try to use the electric start. If that doesnt work, look and see if the time chain is off and that could cause the exhaust valve to bend.
take it to a local shop to see what is wrong with it. then try to fix it at home ur self if you want to save money. A similar thing happened to my 400ex and i am sure that the exhaust valve is bent.

Well thanks for everybodies input but I took the top end off today and did not like what I seen. At first I took off the valve covers and seen that the dude I bought it off of welded the top of the valves to keep the spring on, I guess he didn't have the clips. So there goes thes the valves. When i got further I Seen that the piston had a big hole in the top of it from one of the valves. I guess that is why he said he had to replace the exhuast valve. lol I thought that it could have a compresion leak while I was trying to get it running the other day and I was right no gaskets at all on the top end. O well I'm glad I don't have much money in it.
