lots of 400EX's for sale in the area. Should I pick one up?

I'm lookin to get a 300EX this summer. I was looking in the daily paper and noticed 8 400EX's for sale, pretty cheap too. I was wondering if I would just be better off getting a used 400EX vs. a used 300EX. I'm 15, 5'8", 110lbs. I know I've been posting lots of questions about these two quads, but I really want to make the right decision. Thanks for the help!

ATVer14,
I personally have owned both. I like the 400ex the best between the two. I would suggest the 400ex will be the better choice as you gain experience with riding. A lot depends on your riding area, type, and just what feels more comfortable to you.. If you can you need to ride the two and make your own choice..
There is more potential in the 400 vs. the 300, but again that depends on what you want it for.

Alright, I know the 400 is the superior machine here. I do about 25% trail riding and 75% MX riding. Money isn't the issue yet, because most of the 400's are going dirt cheap around here, don't know why, I've seen some of them and they look and run fine. The issue is that I don't think that for my size, I could handle the quad or feel comfortable on it. Before this, I've only owned a Recon. So most likey the 300 is for me.

you must be really skinny, i am 5'8" and about 155lbs. the 400ex is a physically small machine, and the power is controllable. there are a ton of 400ex's for sale in wisconson too, if i had to guess, i would say the reason they are so cheap is because of the raptor. there are 2000 400's for sale for $4,500 with less then 10 hours on them for sale (like 2-3 of em)

i had a 400ex , and it was an awesome trail bike. it has alot more ***** than the 300ex. my brother-in-law has a 300 ex, and it too, is an awesome trail bike. both are good bikes. the 300ex seems a little more tippier than then 400. do not be scared of the 400ex if your thinking about it. you will get used to it pretty fast. both bikes are reliable and youwont go wrong with eighther one. if you like reverse ,, go with the 300,,, if you want more power,, go with the 400. i did have a few situations where my brother -in-law had to go first through unknown trails, for fear of having to pull the 400 ,or turn it around. that does get to be a pain in the *** when your in real tight spots, where you cant power slide the bike around. anyway good luck,,like i said .. you cant go wrong with eighther.

I've noticed many 400ex's around here too. It is because everyone wants a Raptor. We have both the 300ex and the 400ex. I can ride both comfortably, even with my small size. In your other post you sounded as if you know what you are doing. If you are capable of jumping, racing, etc. on a Recon, you can only do it better with the 300 or 400. I don't think they are too much for you to handle. Go slow at first, get the feel for the bike, and before you know it you will not even think about the extra power. Both are exellent quads, but you would be much happier with the 400ex, and not having reverse has never been an issue for us. Also, the handling and the suspension is better on the 400ex compared to the 300ex. But, like I said, both are great quads. Happy trails!
