5th gear light on, no electric start.
1st gear light flashes 6 times, repeats until cleared, starts again.
that code is failsafe relay. Would that make it stick in 5th?

Not sure what code 6 is on a recon, but thew first thing to do is change down to neutral with the emergency lever. Once the neutral light is on, you should get the electric start back. If you can't get it to change with the emergency lever (it will be stiff) you have a mechanical problem with the selector mechanism. Most electrical problems with the ES system are faulty angle sensor (but that is code 3 on most Honda ES) or faulty shift motor, (brushes worn or magnets dropped off).
