99 HONDA FOREMAN 450ES SHIFTING PROBLEM

99 HONDA FOREMAN 450ES SHIFTING PROBLEM

Do a gear position switch test
If it checks out, remove the shift control motor and check if it spins both directions with voltage hooked to the wires both ways with little effort.
The pre 2002 electric shifts can be a pain to diagnose as they do not display codes
Found quite a number of bad shift control motors that shut down the electric shift system because of water in them, corrosion, bad armeture contact via bad brushes or arcing out a spot in the armeture
My 01 450 has eaten 2 shift motors since I bought it. Even recieved a defective brand new shift motor from Honda while fighting shift issues on mine

Hello all - I have a similar problem developing on my 2000 Foreman 450ES - can anyone tell me the best way to get at the shift motor/angle sensor? What if anything has to be removed? Thanks for any help!
