ok ive got an almost completely stock trx 400x....
the only thing ive done is taken out the tip on the excaust so it will open up to a 1 inch exit... not completely gutted tho. since ive taken the out it still has very good back pressure and sum increased speed... here the thing i had my buddy ride alongside me in my truck on the highway to get a round about speed... he said i was going 80 but i think hes bluffing... but i cnt let him ride the bike while i ride in the truck to see the speedometer beacause he doesnt push it as hard as i do...hes a chicken... anyone know the average stock top end speed?????? |

Did you rejet after uncorking the exhaust???? These come jetted lean from the factory, to meet emissions. You uncork it, and it will be even more lean!!! Don't be fooled, lean engines feel like you are getting better performance....right up until your piston melts!

recon is dead on,lean is mean until she goes. now with the new emissions,you really have to rejet to ensure your getting enough fuel,because now i doubt you are.

yea i havent jetted yet but im still looking on what to order to jet it...my father in law is a bike mechanic he said to order it and hel do it for me...
but yea u guys are right the bike runs lean as all hell and hot hot hot im gunna end up changing the pipe and regetting in a week or so... itll give it a little more power and keep the engine cooler.... i think its kind of retarded with the emmissions control deal.. ya know sacrifising my 7000 engine so i dont mess up the atmosphere... tree huggers i swear |

Stock it'll do 60-62 at most. I had mine stock clocked at 61 GPS verified.

really? i thought they would go faster. my 3 quads will hit 55 tops. i know there are sport quads that would go much faster, just thought a 400 sport would have more in it. but i havent ridden sport barely at all, so idk.

It'll go faster if you add a tooth to the front or drop 3 in the rear. Might be able to get another 10mph with that.

they cant be that fast I pass them all the time on my 350x . I am usually riding a wheelie and shifting gears so its kind of hard to say how fast I am going.

Hawkman- Jet kit regulates your fuel / air mixture, how much of each get into the cylinder ... If your not evan sure what a jet kit is dont attempt to do it on your own. Call your local shops and see what they would charge you to pipe and jet your quad. Check out denniskirk.com or rockymountainatv.com for pipe /jet kit combos. pipe /jet kit combos are dyer to let your bike run at its full potential. Besides, no engine, jetting, air filter or pipe mods will make your quad "faster" unless you change either the rev limiter or the gearing or both.

Im not even going to begin to explain why a carb can have so much influence on response and quickness if set up correctly on a stock engine with the right pipe, because you allready know so much huh...Guess my 15 years of racing experience and hundreds of manufactures ,shop gurus, mechanics, and gear heads have been wrong all these years.... Red is correct. I have many years of racing behind me. Go Karts, not ATV's. Top speed will not change unless the rev limiter is defeated or removed, or the gearing is changed. But, how FAST you GET to that limiter is a measure of quickness. There are proffessional football tackles that are QUICKER than sprinters. They can run 40 yards in less time. But the sprinter will run the 440 in less time. I know, not a good comparison but...... But I think Pimp just assumed the OP thought fast = quick. Don't be so hard on him Red.
