thinkin about buyin a honda rancher 420
Man, I've smashed a wheel into a rock or stump hidden in the grass of a halfway grownover trail one too many times... Taming the kickback would be worth it alone to me, to say nothing for having easier steering- especially in the big boulders.
If Honda ever comes out with a 700+ class machine with IRS, low range, and power steering- I'd be down at the dealer with my check book right now.

i bought my 420 fm 2 weeks ago, and i love mine!
i have been thru pretty deep mud, i haven't taken it to the max yet, because i don't have a winch yet, but it does very well on the trails, and compared to my old ex 250 it handles like a caddilac!
plenty of power too!

I have an 07 rancher 420 4x4 fm. i noticed that with the stock tires it seems like theres plenty of power. it handles really well. it actually out accelerates a foreman 500 and has a higher top speed around 52-55ish (atleast my buddies and he weights about 80lbs than i do). the efi is excellent, and the selectable 4wd is great. i do wish it had a speedometer. i added a winch which has saved my @$$ quite a bit last winter. the machine is a bit heavy, but nimble all at the same time. if i were to have had the option of IRS or the SRA, i would definately go with the SRA. you only gain like 2.5" of ground clearance and another $1000 or more on the price tag. as i mentioned before the rancher is already on the heavy side, and with the IRS its starting to approach the heftiness of a polaris sportsman 500 which is heavy. i put 25" executioners with steel wheels and i have to say that it will go anywhere you point it now, but however this tire and wheel setup kills the power. i used to be able to get into some mud in 2nd and spin the tires but now in 2nd with the executioners it just bogs and eventually picks up steam. as for aftermarket parts there really isnt **** out there. i did find that on HMFENGINEERING.com you can buy any of their slip ons for the 420 as well as the efi programmer. but their pipes are on the pricey side. all in all for a machine in the 400-450cc class i would definately reccomend buying the 420, especially if you want to upgrade from the 350. if you upgrade your tires stick with something like mud lites with the 3/4" tread anything too aggressive and you will be down on power and have a rougher ride. you will not be disappointed with any of the rancher 420's.

Just get a GPS. They show current speed, max speed, average speed and help you from getting lost. lol
Bought a cheep Garmin for just over $100 and the handle bar mount was $20. Works great.. and they are very accurate..

Got the mount for the GPS at walmart, I use the Etrex Legend CX.
Got the Chip on Ebay for about $40. They have them for most quads.
Other then the chip I haven't added anything else.
Hope this helps...
