HELP 03 honda rancher 350 ignition problems
im a mechanic but this is my first atv and i dont know much about them but i dont want to pay $80 an hour labor when i can do whatever needs to be fixed. ive done a little trouble shooting already and have found out im not getting power to the coil. from what i understand there are only three components of the igintion system the voltage regulator, the coil and the CDI. im thinking i might have a CDI problem. all the fuses are good the battery is good, it has a full tank of gas. i was riding last night and after about 10 miles it shut off while running in gear and wont crank back up. i pulled the spark plug wire and stuck a screwdriver in it and grounded the screwdriver onto a bare spot on the frame in the dark and saw zero spark. i tested the coil today with a test light and have no power to it.
can anyone give me any insight on this? i dont really know what the cdi is or does but i know where its located and im pretty sure it is bassically the brain and the regulator would regulate the current to the coil. is the cdi or the regulator a common problem with these. i have a buddy who has a rancher 350 but it is an electric shift i was going to try his cdi box on mine but the honda dealer said it was a different part #
can anyone help me troubleshoot this thing please
