99 honda trx300 ex
 

hi i just joined and i got a 300ex from a friend the timing chain pop off so i put it back on but didnt set the timing how do you set it. and i wont to mod this thing out for speed what all would i need to do this. the mods can be done later. i just want to ride now so i need help on the timing please thanks guys.

It's not like an old car where you rotate the distributor. The timing chain has to be installed on the gear a certain way. I believe at at top dead center and then the gear has to be indexed so the prick mark is at the top and the lines line up to the top of the head cover. But you better check this in a manual. And if you don't have one, and plan to do this kind of work yourself, get one.
