honda rancher a/t horror stories

All:
we have all heard and read the stories of that the a/t is unservicable and that they are junk...
yes I did have to replace the clutch and emc. under warrentee. and after properly waterproofing all the ele. connections on the bike it has performed without any problem..

Yes it is undergeared (I wish it had the trx 300 super low) but has anyone actualy had to replace the $1400 unservicable trany? or did the dealership just bs you into it...?

My 04 400 has 250 hrs and 700 miles and has done great after honda replaced the clutch and emc....

I am running 27" mudzillas so I figuer that is where most of the power is going.....

So my main question is, WHO HAS HAD TO REPLACE THE A/T IN THEIR 400 RANCHER.?

Thanks for all the help in the past I just need to ask this question.

So far so good, no responses= no replaced a/t's
yea Honda could have done better in the gearing but service seems to be ok.

Interesting thread since I was looking at a used 04 Rancher 400 AT. Maybe I should consider just looking at the 350s with floor shifter bikes to avoid any electrical/tranny issues.

trust me, no matter what you buy, you will want to water proof all the ele. connections manual or auto trans. If not you will be back on this forum.

Is that in regard to the Ranchers? Or are you just making a general statement about quads?

All Brands period.
ya gotta water proof the ele. if you want to go and not have problems.
Snorkels and vents are for going deep.

My '04 AT has 3000 and some change miles on it and as far as i know it hasn't had anything replaced, besides the stator and voltage reg....I did those myself, and the dielectric grease is a great idea, I have done that my self and for safe measure i sprayed every component down with silicone spray (dunno if it helps)

I'm runnin 25'' Mud bitches and yeah it could use more power but it does ok, I haven't ran into a situation where I couldn't spin the tires.....and it pulled four 12' long telephone poles with out any problems (4wd).

I didnt waterproof any of my electrical or put a snorkel on my big bear and went mudding and had some MAJOR PROBLEMS

I have an 04 400 at with over 3000 miles on it and no issues. I have it snorkeled, lifted and running 26" Reptiles. This is my wifes quad and we ride the mountains, trails, water and lite mud (her choice). Just need to remember the AT's are trail machines and not heavy mudders. If you want to run big tires and heavy mud get a qad that is geared for that purpose.
