chadly,
I'm 6'3, 200lbs, 25, been riding 20 of them, and have a lot of seat time with a Warrior and especially 300ex's. You are right it sounds like a 400ex (or Z400) is what would be best for you, but because of your troubling insurance reasons I see why you are doing what you are.
A Warrior is a tad more comfy for a taller rider, but I would honostly put a Warrior more into a utility category than a sport. You put an equal, decent rider on each a 300ex and Warrior, and a 300ex will win. Warriors are reliable for sure, but not sporty IMO.
300ex's are bullet proof, nimble, and peppy for what they are, especially when you get rid of the stock exhaust system. You are right they are a few mph slower than a Warrior, but in the trails you will never know. One thing Honda really has right on the EX's is balance. A good rider can take a 300ex anywhere. I highly recommend if this is the class of machine you are looking for.

Well, I have requested a list of "un-insurable" ATV's, and this is what I got:
ATK - (All Models)
Bombardier / Can-Am - DS (All models), Renegade 800
Connondale - (All models)
Honda - TRX400EX , TRX450R/TRX450ER Sportrax
Kawasaki - KFX (all models)
Polaris -Outlaw, Predator(all models), Scrambler(all models)
Suzuki - LT500R, LT-Z400 Quadsport
Yamaha - Raptor (all models), YFM350X Warrior, YFS200 Blaster, YFZ (all models)
So, any input what I should look at that is insurable? Manual clutch, 4-stroke, and....
I can't think of much besides the 300EX, or a older 250EX that is 4-stroke and clutch (I am not looking for a OLD LT230 Quadsport). And the LT250R/TRX250R/Tecate, although faster then a good chunk of the list above, not a good match for the trails I ride.
Ideas? (beside switching insurance company.)
I am going to go check out a 300EX, I haven't written it off, just wondering if there is other choices that I can't think of.
Thanks Chad

Insurance companies claim there is a lot of risk associated with sport models. I was getting insurance quotes for my motorcycle last year and found out AAA doesn't do sport bikes, not even for members, doesn't matter if it's a Ninja 250 or R1 they just don't want anything to do with them. Maybe just try a different insurance company would be my suggestion, there has to be one that will cover this sort of ATV.

I think they're safer than the big heavy Utes too.
About street bikes, that is the truth. I had crotch rocket worth 4k and insurance was thru the roof, but really cheap on a 12k Harley. I didn't insure the sport bike.
And I agree, someone has to cover all the ATV's, I know they're all sold there. Shop around.

Don't see Suzuki ltr 450 on the list.
KTM 450 or 525 Expensive but very niiiiice!
Honda TRX700xx? - 5 speed manual with reverse
2009 TRX700XX Specifications - Honda Powersports
Yamaha Wolverine 350 and 450? I know they're automatics and heavy, but it looks like concessions have to be made. You can always test drive.
Kymco Mongoose? I know I'm reachin'....

AND the BS part of it is, IF I move my house, cars, and other insurable, THAN another company will insure a "sport ATV" at a lesser rate, BUT all my other premiums will go up more then my saving.....
I have a stupid question (cause I am sure I know the answer), The LTZ450R would not suit for tight wooded trails, and mud right? I am sure it was designed to run with the other 450R in wide open spaces with moderate maintenance due to it "race" design.
It is looking like I get a 300EX, or a old 2-stroker and a box of spark plugs!!
Thanks for your input Chad
