i have a 2002 honda rancher es 4x4 and i have a few problems. i have a little oil in the breather tank. it also smokes when it is revved or driven. the oil level stays low. it starts up fine and runs fine, it just smokes a little and there is oil in the breather tank where the air filter is. it has 1900 miles. what do you think the problem is.

 

you say the oil stays low. are you overfilling it, are you checking it correctly.
i believe oil is to be checked warm and dont screw the dipstick in, just set dipstick in the hole. too much oil will smoke and pressure will make it collect in the air breather box.

did you buy the atv new? if not, the owner before you filled the motor up with water, turned it over to drain it, and it scored the cylinderwall, this leaves oil in the air cleanerbox too, and would cause it to smoke.

 

oil in the breather box can also be normal, if your crankcase breather is ran into the air box. most atvs are like this so that it burns the crankcase fumes, for emissions. if your air cleaner is soaked with oil, that too can cause it to smoke. but most likely you need a new cylinder and rings.
