You have to just be a mechanic, I have a friend who is the mechanic for our Yamaha dealer and has been working there for 15 years, he could quit and work at the Honda,or any other dealership tomorrow, he says he can fix them all including PWC,Snowmobiles, chainsaws, outboard motors of any brand its just a bunch of nuts and bolts and parts to him.

He works on the side out of his shop and every different type of machine goes in and out of there.

Some formal training would help get you in the door.

I enjoy mechanic work work myself, but dealership mechanics don't make as much as you would think, plus I'm a bit of a perfectionist and like to take my time...

UTI, MMI and WyoTech both have motorcycle mechanic schools if you are interested in going to a 2 year tech program.
To me; snowmobiles are the hardest to work on due to clutching, gearing and altitude adjustments. Sure, the manufacture gives you a base line, but learning how to fine tune one is by the seat-of-your-pants and experience riding them and knowing the brand. ATV's are a piece of cake except for knowing engine and tranny building.
Good Luck on your venture.

THESE are the hardest things to work on.
