1986 TRX250R Gold Aluminum Wheels
 

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for answers/opinions for my question.

I recently purchased a 1986 TRX250R and it came with douglas wheels mounted on it. It also came with the 2 original rear gold wheels with tires. Additionally, It came with 2 brand new never had tires mounted on them rear rims, and 1 brand new front. One still has a price sticker form a now out of business Honda dealer it was purchased from ($134.99 in the day).

My question is- I really like the looks of the stock gold wheels, but the bike isn't mint, so would I be doing a bad thing to mount tires on the brand new factory wheels I have? I don't know if these are hard to find or a dime a dozen.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated

New old stock gold rims are pretty rare. Me personally I would buy two factory rear Honda tires mount them on those rims then put them up somewhere and only put them on the bike to show it off.

I do have a the original rears with the stock or 80's correct tires. Tires look good, but are old so I wouldn't trust them to ride on, but sitting might be ok. Are original tires available?

Probably just do nothing with them for now. Need to get money together to do a few other things before beauty will be a factor. It's mostly original and stock, but it didn't see any attention for many years. Has low compression in my opinion, so I need to investigate that further and I'm sure do a top end.

What might be the value of NOS wheels? I have 2 rears and only one front. Would hate to sell them, but I realize they could help with the rebuild!

It's not as nice as what I have dreamed of, but I finally got a 250R. Always wanted one!

Nobody really anodizes wheels anymore, and frankly I am surprised. The process has come a long way in the last 10-15 years and they can do some crazy stuff now(look at paintball markers for example.) Maybe the type of aluminum used on rims may not allow the crazy stuff, but you should be able to get a finish similar to oem at least if you sent some out to be redone. Excellent condition oem tires may be worth something to a collector, don't know. Personally I would rather have something modern that I am willing to sacrifice to the dirt gods on my machines.
