except for the pro's, it's happening more and more every race I go to...
what do you all think? |
You are absolutly right. I see the same if not more ex than Rs anymore at the local and regional races. It appears up here on the tighter tracks, Rs don't stand a chance agains a bored ex. I think its the torque. On the longer faster tracks they appear to be pretty well matched. There are still those few with full mod Rs that spank everyone but that is to be expected. Up here its not so much 440s but 416 and 426. I also see a lot of stock 400s winning too.
|
yeah, I see a lot of stock 400's with just silencer/airbox mods winning around here
|
In north eastern Indiana there are a pretty good mix of 400EX`s and 250R`s. On the tracks around here I think the 250R`s have the advantage. 88 250R too many mods to list 2000 400EX too many mods to list

The new era in racing will be the 4 stroke.
|
You are absoulty(sp?)2fiftyx!I think that it stinks but you have to live with it.But the new 4 strokes are alot faster than they used to be.It's all technology.I think it stinks but hey I would rather ride a 4 stroke than not ride at all.I love my 300ex and would much rather be riding that than walking.

The latest 4 stroke ATV's are definitely a vast improvement. The technology is better and RPM range much higher. Still one thing will always be ... the motors will always be much larger than their 2 stroke predecessors which unfortunately adds more weight and different handling characteristics but they'll probably improve that too with some new space age material. Why not TITANIUM???? Everything is using it now. Titanium casing with plastic pistons, yeah right!
I'm impressed with the 400EX and Yamaha's Raptor but I still wouldn't trade my 250R or a banshee for them yet. |
A four stroke can NEVER match the power of a 2 stroke with the same displacement for the simple fact that it takes twice as many strokes to complete the same action.
|
A Titanium cased atv would cost way too much, 4strokes will always be too heavy!
|
I'll bet a supercharged, nitromethane YZ250F would make more power than a modded-out 250 2-stroke, and it'd probably last just as long too. Yes, the 2-stroke is producing power on every revolution, but it's much less efficient than the 4-stroke, so a normal 2-stroke produces ~1.5 times the power of a normal 4-stroke of the same size, but also uses about twice as much gas.
