TRX250R with CR500 engine?
I have been trying to think of the ultimate 2 stroke quad with the least amount of fab work. The LT500R is rare and expensive, not even THAT great engine wise. I hate Banshees lets just exclude those, the TRX250R had a great suspension but a small motor. What would you use a CR500 engine or a KX500? What are the major differences between the CR & KX 500s? I don't want a Banshee motor or a sled motor, or street bike. Is there a more easily obtainable and less expensive chassis you would use? Maybe a 4 stroke conversion over to 2 stroke? Share your thoughts

I don't know about quads but the problem with with doing a cr500 conversion in a atc250r is vibration due to the 500 not having a counterbalancer to the point where the cr500 breaks the motor mounts. heard of people doing it and being to rough to ride.

To my knowledge no 2stroke dirtbike engine has a counterbalancer, I know the atc engines do, don't know about quads.

I don't know anything about a Kawasaki. I often read and was told the dirtbike engine to quad or atc hybrid had severe vibration issues to the point to not being able to ride it. Now with that being said, for a dragbike I don't really see a problem cause it's over quick but as a regular rider it may be a problem. And yes a crank balancer, google 2 stroke counterbalancer.

Old thread but, I really want to pickup an ATC250R and put a CR500 engine in it. I need to figure out a way to do this, why can a 2 wheels chassis take more vibration than 3 or 4 wheel? Is it all in the fork shocks being connected to the handlebars?

I am thinking it has more to do with having 2 fat and wide tires hooking up out back vs 1 skinny tire spinning. That and vehicle weight. One of the coolest conversions I have seen was a Banshee motor.in a yfz 450 chassis. Suspension and handling that motor deserves.

Suzuki did it with a ATV , they but the both the RM 250 and 500 motor in a ATV.
Kawasaki put a KX250 in a ATV and some people swapped it with the KX500 motor. Can see changing TRX250R which is just a CR250 motocross motor to the larger CR500 would be a big deal. This guy did it. Is the cr250 and cr500 not the same motor but for the larger cylinder and piston? The bottom end of both motors are the same I think. |
