Default How to remove the crankshaft bolt on Honda Rancher

I am trying to install a pull start on my dads 2010 Honda Rancher 420. I have all the wiring harnesses and all done. The only thing that I cannot figure out how to do is to remove the crankshaft bolt, so that I can add the recoil pulley to the motor. I have been told to put the ATV in gear and try that. I did this with a ratchet, and all it does is keep on cranking the bolt, and it either lowers the rearend, or raises it, depending on whether i have it in forward or reverse gear.

I read where 1 guy said he put a ratchet on the bolt, then started the ATV, and that knocked the bolt loose. Has anyone ever tried that? Will it work? Does anyone have any other ideas on how to do this? Thanks!

I am going to try it with an impact wrench this weekend. And I have the bolt that replaces the stock bolt and it is not backward thread. I wondered that myself in the beginning!

Yeah I had to ask, I had an issue before on my car when I tried to remove a pulley and ended up stripping the bolt due to reverse threads, just did not what that happening to you. I am interested though in what the torque rating is when replacing the new bolt. If it is super tight then only safe way to remove is with an impact gun. I will check out the manual tonight just out of curiosity.

Default Did you get it out?

Hello, I was wondering if you got the bolt out or not? I have a 2003 and the bolt seems way to tight. I dont want to break it off in the crankshaft. That would be to much at this point..
Thank You for your reply in advance.
Have a blessed day!.
