Honda Foreman S Won't start but turns on
I have a green honda foreman S that after a ride around one day, I got back to start it and it lights up and everything but when i press the start button nothing happens. Makes no noise when I press button so I'm thinking its the button that went out? Thanks for any help/suggestions!

Check your fuses, that is where I would start. Then check to make sure all the wires/connections are good. Then let us know what you find out. And does it have a pull start if so does that start it?

Thanks for the reply! Well I found the fuse box but nothing seemed burnt so fuses checked out. How should I go about checking all the wires? Is tracing the ignition wire best way to start? And no it doesn't have a pull start but I am considering trying a push start if all else fails.

Bump! I didn't find anything wrong with the fuses or wires...any other suggestions?

I would have The starter checked. I'm pretty sure you can take it down to an auto zone or similar store and they can check and see if it is still good. And before that you may check to see if The battery still is good with a volt meter I'm thinking you should be around 12 or so and also check it while you hit The start button if it drops way down that's most likely your problem.

PS check The battery before you go to The trouble of taking off your starter.

before you take the starter off, jump the solenoid with a screwdriver to crank the starter. you may have a starter button in the handlebar with a loose connection. use the pull/tug method. take your ohm meter/multimeter and probe the wires and check for resistance from that starter button/switch to the relay. please make sure your neutral switch or park switch, if equipped, is satisfied. that may have a connection to a safety interlock which will shutdown your starting operation. in other words, make sure the park light or the neutral switch is lit up. if not, check those switches and wires. holler back.

if you have to have the starter pulled, pull it, set it on the ground, connect the jumper cables to it (from your car battery) and it should spin. positive clamp to hot side, then touch the negative/ground cable clamp to the side of the starter to ground it. it is much easier to use the screwdriver trick across the solenoid though.
but before you do any of that, please make sure your quad battery is charged up. if the voltage is too low, it won't energize the solenoid. but i'm thinking it may be in your different switches i mentioned earlier. holler back with details on your updates or whatever else you find. |
thanks everyone for all the help u guys gave...i know its been a while but the problem was the ignition switch...i took it apart and the casing that held the starter button was broke and the mechenism had slid out...i used duck tape to hold it back it and for now it works fine again until i can find a better solution....again thanks for all the help =)
