2007 Honda rancher 420
 
Hello, I'm new here looking for some help.
I have a 2007 Honda rancher 420 about a week ago i was riding and went through a hole (not very deep) made it through as soon as i came out it died.it wil not start just turn over. I drained the old gas, put fresh, have a clean blue spark and fuel coming out of the injector. The battery is fully charged and has a new fuel filter. Any ideas?

Have you shot it with some starting fluid just to see if it takes off? If you have good spark and gas, then it will run unless the timing is out of whack or the compression is gone. Have you checked the air box to make sure no water got in there?

The air box was a little Wet on the bottom, the air filter is dry when I get off work I will get some starter fluid and give it a shot

I don't typically like using starter fluid but in a case like this it will help rule out some things. If it starts on the starting fluid then you will know that you may have water in the fuel system. If it doesent start on the starting fluid and you have good spark then It could be timing or low compression.

Starting spray didn't do it checked the spark again it's still good. I'm gonna check my valve clearance just to make sure they are right I know if they are wrong it won't start. How would I go about checking the timing?

Do you think the engine could have sucked in water? If so, it's possible you could have hydro locked it and blown the head gasket which would have caused a loss of compression. Does it hiss or suck when you crank it over? That would be a good sign of a blown gasket.

I'm not sure how your Honda is setup as far as checking the timing but you may have to pull the valve cover and there is usually a plug you take out that covers the magneto mark that indicates top dead center. If you can confirm valve lash and timing, then run a compression check. If its low then I'd say it could be a blown head gasket. Keep us updated.

The oil isn't milky what else Can I check to see if it's hydrolocked

It won't be hydro locked now, but what I meant by that was that when you went through the water, if it sucked some into the engine it, then when the piston came up to compress the fuel/air then the water in the chamber that got sucked in could have created too much pressure and blown out the head gasket.

Oil being milky isn't the only sign to look for in a blown head gasket...Test that compression...
